Midwifery Registration Programmes Standards

NMBI publishes standards for education bodies (EBs) and their practice partners involved in the education and registration of midwives. This document includes Standards for Entry to the Register and pre-registration Standards for Midwife Education in Ireland.

The standards are considered by NMBI to be essential for the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of pre-registration education programmes for the midwifery profession. These standards have been devised following significant consultation with relevant stakeholders.

The Fifth Edition of the Midwifery Registration Programmes Standards (2025) is the current edition.
