Registration Process for Students and Graduates who Qualified in Ireland
If you were educated as a nurse or midwife in Ireland, you will already have met the requirements set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) because you will have completed a nursing or midwifery programme which we approved.
Undergraduate Nursing or Midwifery students in Ireland must be on the Candidate Register before coming into contract with patients.
Following a successful completion of a nursing or midwifery graduate programme, graduates can apply to place their name on the Register of Nursing and Midwives. It is worthwhile noting that it is against the law to practise in Ireland without NMBI registration.
If your name is already on the Register of Nurses and Midwives and you are in the process of completing a post-graduate programme in Ireland, you do not need to be registered on the Candidate Register. Once you successfully complete your post-graduate programme, you can apply to add a new division to your registration.
