Nurse Registration Programmes Standards and Requirements
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) publish standards and requirements for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) and Health Care Providers (HCPs) involved in the education and registration of nurses in relation to the development, delivery and evaluation of nurse registration education programmes.
The standards and requirements are considered by NMBI to be essential for the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of standards of initial education programmes for the nursing profession.
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) launched updated standards and requirements for Nurse Registration Programmes in February 2016, that came into effect 1 September 2018. They are designed to provide guidance to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Health Service Providers on the education of registered nurses of the relevant divisions of the Register of Nurses and Midwives.

Section 3 Revision
Work was undertaken with a Proof of Concept project (2020/21) focusing on Section 3 of the Standards and Requirements, in particular revising the Approval and Monitoring Processes as part of site inspections.
Following extensive review, Section 3 now has a streamlined list of requirements to demonstrate compliance. The requirements have been organised into EB requirements, Programme Requirements, AHCP requirements and requirements for New Providers.
Section 3: Standards for the Approval of Education Bodies, Associated Healthcare Providers and Education Programmes leading to Registration is now published and will form part of the fifth edition of Nurse Registration Programmes Standards and Requirements.
