The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) launched updated standards and requirements for Nurse Registration Programmes in February 2016, but will come into effect 1 September 2018. They are designed to provide guidance to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Health Service Providers on the education of registered nurses of the relevant divisions of the Register of Nurses and Midwives.
They were developed over a two year period and followed closely on the recommendations of the Report of the Review of Undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery Programmes (Department of Health).
The standards and requirements are considered by NMBI to be essential for the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of standards of initial education programmes for the nursing profession.
Please note: these standards and requirements come into effect 1 September 2018.
