Nomination information
How may I be nominated as a candidate?
Eligible candidates must meet the requirements for the particular category for which she/he intends to stand as set out in the ‘Procedures for the election of eight registered nurses or registered midwives to Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann’.
The Nomination Form may be submitted from 9.00am on Friday, 7 August 2026. The period for receiving nominations will expire at 1.00pm on Friday, 21 August 2026. Completed nomination papers and declarations must be delivered to the Returning Officer by post or in person so as to be received before the close of nominations. at the offices of NMBI, 18-20 Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock, Co Dublin.
Part A of the Nomination Form must be completed in full by the person being nominated. The nominee must specify the basis on which they qualify for nomination in the category in which they are seeking to be elected.
A candidate for election shall be a registered nurse practising nursing in the state or a registered midwife practising midwifery in the State on the day preceding the last day for nominations. A candidate may not stand for election in more than one category.
Part B of the Nomination Form must be completed in full by three registered nurses or registered midwives who are nominating the person.
The declaration must be signed by the nominee. The nominee must ensure that the form has been fully completed before returning it to the Returning Officer.
Nominees deemed eligible as candidates for election
The Returning Officer will assess each nomination to confirm eligibility, category qualification and, where applicable, evidence of engagement in clinical practice. Once nominations are approved by the Returning Officer, an email will be sent to each candidate for election inviting them to submit a short biographical profile (maximum 300 words) detailing information in respect of current job title, professional qualifications and professional experience, and a photograph (jpg format) which will be included in the ballot information.
Nomination categories
Nominators must indicate the category in which their candidate is being proposed. The categories in which a person may be nominated are:

* Candidates seeking election in categories 2 and 4 must be engaged in clinical practice and may be required to provide evidence of same to the Returning Officer.

If you do not receive an acknowlegement of receipt of your nomination within 48 hours of posting or delivering the nomination, contact election@nmbi.ie.
A candidate may withdraw from candidature at any time before the expiration of the time for receiving nominations (1.00pm on 21 August 2026) by furnishing written notice to that effect, signed by the candidate, to the Returning Officer.
