Carolyn Donohoe

Carolyn Donohoe is the Chief Executive Officer of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), the statutory regulator for the nursing and midwifery professions.

In this national leadership role, she leads the organisation’s full regulatory remit, overseeing Registration, Fitness to Practise, Education, Policy and Standards, and Corporate Services.

Since joining NMBI in 2021 as Director of Education, Policy and Standards, Carolyn has drawn on her extensive nursing experience in critical care, education, practice development, and perioperative services management. She holds postgraduate qualifications in nursing education and in business leadership and management, bringing a combination of clinical, academic, and organisational development expertise to her regulatory leadership role.

As CEO, she has driven major reforms in professional practice and education standards, advanced digital transformation across the organisation, and strengthened transparent governance with NMBI’s 23 member Board. Her leadership is focused on ensuring safe, high quality professional regulation that protects the public and supports the ongoing development of the nursing and midwifery workforce.
