Draft Post-Registration Specialist Education Programmes Standards for Nursing and Midwifery
NMBI is holding a public consultation on the Draft Post-Registration Specialist Education Programmes Standards for Nursing and Midwifery.
NMBI sets the standards for nursing and midwifery education across the professional continuum.
The development of standards for post-registration specialist education builds on the established regulatory framework of the NMBI Code of Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives (2025), alongside the Registered Nurse Programmes Standards and Registered Midwife Programmes Standards (2025).
These standards have adopted the same approach and design, supporting consistency across the practice and education framework. They set out a clear regulatory trajectory from initial preparation through ongoing professional competence, in the interests of public protection.
Registered nurses and midwives must ensure that their practice consistently reflects the principles of the Code.
We would really appreciate your views. Your first step is to read the draft consultation document below; and then submit your feedback by completing the online survey.
The closing date for submitting your feedback is 5pm on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.
