NMBI Nursing Regulation Conference
In 2019, NMBI held a conference to celebrate100 Years of Nursing Regulation in Ireland: Past, Present and Future. conference took place on Thursday 24 October 2019 in the Clayton Hotel, Liffey Valley.
The conference began with a session on regulation and changing healthcare, from NMBI CEO Sheila McClelland, Dr Siobhan O’Halloran, the Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Health, and Essene Cassidy, NMBI President.
This was followed by a panel on nursing regulation over the past 100 years, and presentations on current, national and international nursing regulation.
There were breakout sessions for attendees throughout the day on topics such as Fitness to Practise and developing a scheme for monitoring the maintenance of professional competence.
In the afternoon we heard from a nursing graduate and one of our keynote speakers who told us about his experience of the importance of regulation for patient safety.
The final conference panel discussion was hosted by Paul Cullen of the Irish Times, in conversation with the CEOs of the national regulators in Ireland on the future of regulation in healthcare.
