European Nurses Can Apply on a No Fee Basis for Temporary Status on the Irish RegisterApril 01, 2020

European (to include the UK) general nurses can support the Irish healthcare system during the emergency on a no fee  ‘temporary and occasional’* basis if they are currently registered with the regulator in their own country. They need to apply via the European Union, Electronic Professional Card (EPC) system on the Europa website. Applicants who follow this route will be processed within two to three days.

​Currently, there are no delays in restoring nurses/midwives to the register. The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) has successfully registered over 500 nurses/midwives in the last week to support frontline healthcare services in responding to the COVID-19 challenge. In addition, there is a small number of applicants whose credentials and qualifications require additional assessment and these are being processed.

NMBI Waives Restoration Fees to Enable Qualified Nurses and Midwives to Return to WorkMarch 16, 2020

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), today announced that it is waiving the fees normally charged to return to the Irish Register of Nurses and Midwives. NMBI is also allocating more staff to its registration department to expedite the process of restoring/re-registering. NMBI will maintain this practice for the duration of the emergency caused by COVID-19.
