General Nursing

If you enjoy working with and helping people, general nursing could be the career for you. General nurses are part of a profession that promotes health and provides nursing care to meet the physical, psychological and social needs of adults and their carers or families.
General nurses work in a wide variety of settings such as hospitals, people’s homes, GP practices, residential care, nursing homes, nursing agencies, prison services, community health centres and hubs, and the pharmaceutical industry. Some of the moore unusual workplaces where general nursing roles are offered include homeless shelters, refugee centres, professional sports clubs, theme parks and cruise ships.
Nurses work as part of a healthcare team in a variety of roles. The four-year general nursing degree course teaches you how to develop your nursing knowledge and skills. It also teaches you how to become an effective member of the healthcare team and advocate for positive health behaviours. The shift patterns can be very flexible; you can work short or long days, nights or weekends or a combination of all of these.
General nursing is an internationally recognised profession that offers a rewarding and exciting career. You can travel and work in all over the world. General nurses can also work for voluntary organisations and international charities in areas of poverty and conflict - working to bring change and better health conditions for local people.
Once qualified, nurses can diversify and progress their career path through continued study at graduate level. This can lead to a career in management, clinical specialist practice, advanced practice, clinical research or teaching at clinical or university level.
General nursing could be the career you are waiting for!
