Quality clinical learning environment: guidance
The aim of this guidance is to provide nurses and midwives with professional guidance and support on matters relating to:
- The creation of and maintenance of a quality clinical learning environment.
- Assessment of nursing and midwifery students in clinical practice.
Every registered nurse or registered midwife has a duty to provide students with clinical support to help them:
- Question, analyse and reflect upon their practice.
- Develop autonomy in decision-making to enable them become safe, caring and competent nurses and midwives.
The document examines the clinical learning environment and provides guidelines on designing and managing the clinical learning experience. It also looks at the clinical learning and assessment process and how students should maintain documents and records.
