Combined Children's and General Nursing

If you like working with children and young people, this could be the career for you. The four-and-a-half-year degree course offers qualifications in both children’s and general nursing. Children’s and general nurses promote health and provide nursing care that meets and supports the needs of children, adults and their carers.


Children's and general nurses can work in wide variety of settings such as hospitals, people’s homes, GP practices, residential care, nursing homes, nursing agencies, prison services, community health centres and hubs, and the pharmaceutical industry. 

Children’s nurses are mainly hospital based and general nurses can work across a wide range of settings in the community and in hospitals, and all work as part of a multidisciplinary team. The nursing programme teaches you how to develop your nursing knowledge and skills and how to become an effective member of the healthcare team advocating for people young and old. 

With this bachelor’s degree you have excellent employment prospects straight from graduation. 

General nursing is an internationally recognised profession that offers a rewarding and exciting career once qualified and registered. You can travel and work in all over the world. General nurses can work for voluntary organisations and international charities in areas of poverty and conflict, working to bring change and better health conditions for local people.  

Once qualified, children's and general nurses can diversify and progress their career path through continued study at graduate level. This can lead to jobs in management, clinical specialist practice, advanced practice, clinical research or teaching at clinical or university level.
