Nomination information

How may I be nominated as a candidate?

Eligible candidates must meet the requirements for the particular category for which she/he intends to stand as set out in the ‘Procedures for the election of eight registered nurses or registered midwives to Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann’. Download the Procedures here.

The Nomination Form must be received by the Returning Officer, in the office of the NMBI, between 9.00am on 30 July 2020 and 1.00 pm on 10 August 2020. The Returning Officer will attend to receive nominations on 10 August between 10.00am and 1.00pm at the offices of the NMBI, 18-20 Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock, Co Dublin.

Part A of the Nomination Form is completed in full by the person to be nominated. Please specify the basis on which you qualify for nomination in the category in which you are seeking to be elected.  A candidate for election shall be a registered nurse practicing nursing in the state or a registered midwife practicing midwifery in the State on the day preceding the last day for nominations.  A candidate may not stand for election in more than one category.

Part B of the Nomination Form is completed in full by three registered nurses or registered midwives who are nominating a person. The declaration must be signed by the nominee. Please ensure that the form is fully completed before returning it to the Returning Officer.

A candidate may withdraw from candidature at any time before the expiration of the time for receiving nominations (1.00pm on 10 August 2020)  by furnishing a notice to that effect, signed by the candidate to the Returning Officer.

Nominees deemed eligible as candidates for election

Nominations are approved by the Returning Officer, Sheila McClelland. Once nominations are approved an email will be sent to each candidate for election inviting each candidate to submit a short biographical profile (maximum 300 words) detailing information in respect of current job title, professional qualifications and professional experience, and a photograph (jpg format) which will be included in the ballot information.

Nomination categories

Nominators must indicate the name of the category for which their candidate is being proposed. The categories for which a person may be nominated are:

   
Category 1* A registered nurse from the practice of general nursing engaged in clinical practice.
Category 2 A registered nurse from the practice of children's nursing
Category 3 A registered nurse or a registered midwife employed in the public health sector and engaged in the education of nurses or midwives
  * The nominee from this category must be engaged in clinical practice


  
Return of Nomination Forms

Completed Nomination Forms should be delivered or sent by post or delivered to the Returning Officer to arrive not before 9.00am on Thursday, 30 July 2020 and not later than 1.00pm on Monday, 10 August 2020:
