Statement from Sheila McClelland, CEO of NMBI

‘I would like to appeal to all registered nurses and midwives who are not currently working, to consider doing so.

NMBI has a register of over 77,000 nurses and midwives. We know that 42,000 are currently employed by the HSE. We estimate that approximately 15,000 more are working in the healthcare system, but outside the HSE, which leaves a possible 20,000 individuals currently on our register who can present themselves for work today, without consulting with us. These individuals should present themselves directly through the HSE website.

For those who were previously on the NMBI Register of Nurses and Midwives and who wish to return to work, we ask that they complete the Restoration Form and forward it to us at the NMBI.

Nurses and midwives requesting restoration to the register should talk to their potential employer about any necessary upskilling. Garda clearance is an employment matter and is not necessary to restore registration.

We at NMBI would like to extend our appreciation to registered nurses and midwives for all the efforts they make to keep us safe.’
