European or overseas qualified nurses or midwives seeking to come to work in Ireland on a permanent basis will be required to pay the assessment fee of €350 to enable us to assess qualifications, language and good standing with previous employers. On successful completion of this assessment a registration fee of €145 is charged.

If an Irish qualified applicant is registering for the first time on the Nursing and Midwifery Register, a registration fee of €145 is charged. ‘

Notes to editor:

*General nurses from Europe can come to Ireland on a ‘temporary and occasional’ basis. NMBI has been granting this for many years in appropriate situations. The NMBI language test requirements will also apply to those seeking temporary registration.

General nurses can use this mechanism in the context of the current emergency. When applying for registration general nurses should select ‘temporary and occasional’ when filling out their details on the Europa website.
