On 20 March 2019 NMBI removed the names of people who had not paid the 2019 ARF from the Register of Nurses and Midwives, in accordance with Section 77 of the Nurses and Midwives Act 2011.

Annual Retention Fees for 2019 were due on or before 31 December 2018, and final reminder letters were issued on 23 January 2019.

Removal letters will now issue to those who have had their name removed. The Minister for Health, the Health Service Executive and any known employer will also be notified of the removal of names from the Register.

The employers of those classified as inactive prior to November 2018 will not be notified.

Once a name has been removed from the Register, the status changes on the Register to “unregistered”. The registration status can be checked at any time by registrants and employers on Check the Register.

Please be advised that it is an offence to practise nursing/midwifery if not registered with NMBI.

Restoration Process

Following the removal of a name for non-payment of the ARF, the process to restore a name to the Register in accordance with Section 78 is as follows:

  • A Restoration Form can be downloaded here.

  • A completed form and relevant documents are sent to NMBI.

  • The Restoration Fee of €250 and the €100 ARF are paid (section E of the Form).

  • It takes approximately 10-15 working days to process a completed restoration request.
