Celebrating Nurses and Midwives in 2020
The World Health Organisation has designated 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife. In May there are two key days, the International Day of the Midwife and the International Day of the Nurse. Significantly, the 200th year anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth also falls in May. Nightingale was best known as the founder of modern nursing and for her efforts to reform healthcare by improving hygiene practices.
To mark the celebrations in 2020 we will share your stories in this section of our web site. We do this to demonstrate the importance of nursing and midwifery in our society and also to shine a light on the compassion and support being provided to people all over Ireland during the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you would like to share your stories and pictures, please contact us at communications@nmbi.ie. Please also ensure that all those in your pictures consent to having them published.
Happy International Year of the Nurse and Midwife from all at NMBI.
